Behavior and Crisis Intervention

In a Socially Interactive Environment, youth are empowered to take responsibility for helping others and accepting help when offered.  The Levels of Intervention is a tool for students to learn problem solving and conflict resolution.  When a youth engages in an inappropriate behavior or makes an irresponsible or poor decision, an intervention is used.  All interventions are done with care and concern for the youth.  When the student accepts the intervention at any level, the intervention ends.

There are graduated levels of intervention:

Level 1:  The Friendly Non-Verbal

Level 2:  The Concerned Non-Verbal

Level 3:  The Helpful Verbal

Level 4:  The Concerned Verbal

Level 5:  Student and Staff Support (Group Support)

Level 6:  Staff Intervention, Staff Support, Physical Restraint Technique – Escort, Standing — Physical restraint is only used when a student is exhibiting behavior that endangers their safety or the safety of others through physical harm or property damage.

Level 7:  Physical Restraint Technique – Supine, Sitting — Physical restraint is only used when a student is exhibiting behavior that endangers their safety or the safety of others through physical harm or property damage.

Youth participate and intervene through Level 5, but Levels 6 and 7 are utilized only by staff members.
